A function in maths is defined by the notation f or f(y) (pronounced f of y). A function accepts a domain and maps to a codomain or range.

Domain – A domain is all the numbers that can go into the function. Being x in the following notation f(x).

codomain or range – A codomain / range is all the numbers that can come out of the function. Being y in the following notation f:x \rightarrow y.

Note: An Image of a function is simply a map from the domain to the codomain or range.

Function Examples

For the function f:x \rightarrow 1 -2x

f(0) = 1 -2(o) = 1
